Yes. Under new California law (AB594), students enrolled in GSHIP may terminate their coverage if they graduate, withdraw from the university, take a leave of absence or otherwise become ineligible for coverage due to no longer being enrolled. Outside of these circumstances, enrollment in the SDSU negotiated plan is annual and cannot be cancelled.
To request termination, students must notify [email protected] at least 30 days before their desired termination date. SDSU will submit the termination request to the insurance carrier during the same calendar month the request is received, when possible. Otherwise, coverage will end no later than the last day of the calendar month in which the 30 day notice period ends.
Students are responsible for premiums only through the date coverage ends, which, unless cancelled sooner as set forth above, is Aug. 15, 2027. Any premium paid for coverage after the termination date will be refunded on a prorated basis.
